In 2021, IOGP’s Subsea Committee kicked off a new work stream specifically focused on subsea CCS. The primary objective of their work has been to create a new IOGP guidance document for subsea CCS developments. IOGP report 665: Design guidance for subsea carbon capture and storage systems was released in Q1-2024 . This has been followed up with an addendum that covers barrier and isolation philosophy for CCS systems that will be available in Q1-2025.
The IOGP Subsea CCS Expert Group consists of Operators and subsea hardware vendors. Like other IOGP publications, the new subsea CCS guideline will be available for free to download from their website.
The presentation will begin with an overview of the IOGP Subsea Committee’s remit, providing context for those unfamiliar with IOGP’s work and the objectives behind the new guidance document. It will then delve into the structure and content of the document in detail. Additionally, several potentials’use cases’ for the subsea CCS guidance document, particularly relevant to SSTB attendees. The presentation will conclude with a summary of IOGP’s broader initiatives and publications in the CCS domain that complement this work.
