Leading Operators on the NCS and UKCS are currently developing Life Extension and Plug and Abandonment (P&A) operations concepts for subsea wells by use of open-water tooling and hence transitioning from operating with traditional drilling rigs to vessels or lighter, purpose-built rigs. This shift simplifies the process and significantly reduces time, costs and CO2-footprint – and improves safety.
CCB Subsea would like to present project examples of innovation and collaboration solutions together with a leading Operator. The suite of field-proven open-water tools are all designed for safe handling on deck, utilizing deck winches and ROV-operated hydraulic retrieval, minimizing manual intervention and reducing operational risks. The tools are also compatible with various system interfaces and have been successfully used in multiple field applications, demonstrating their reliability and effectiveness.
By reducing the units’ outfitting needs, we minimize the environmental footprint of Life Extension and P&A operations. Operations include installation of Contingency Barrier Plugs, pulling Internal Tree Cap, retrieval of Tubing Hanger, and pulling upper parts of the production tubing including control lines. The latest concept incorporates new philosophy on barrier management, allowing the use of vessels for the entire P&A operation.
The improvements to all aspects of the operators’ operations have been significant, ranging from quality, time, cost, health, safety, and environmental footprint, with a cross-border improvement metric of 50%.
Learn how client-driven projects may regain integrity of your subsea wells and optimize your P&A operations, ensuring enhanced performance and sustainability.
