Several geographies have reservoirs that contain hydrocarbon fluids with high Gas-Oil Ratio combined with CO2 content.
Some Brazilian pre-salt areas fall within these characteristics. By application of HISEP®, a dense gas separation technology patented by Petrobras, production will be enhanced by subsea separation and re-injection of CO2-rich gas.
The HISEP® system relies on several technologies to reduce the energy required at the platform for gas separation, cooling, compression, and injection. An extensive technology de-risking program was conducted prior to project sanction to increase the Technical Readiness Level (TRL). However, some technologies remained at a low overall value stream Readiness Level (RL) and posed significant risk to the Mero 3 HISEP® project at start-up.
To mitigate these value stream risks and ensure smooth project execution, a comprehensive readiness level (RL) acceleration program was implemented. This involved engagement with subject matter experts across all disciplines and focused integration events to deeply understand the product and the system across the value stream, from concept to installation and operations.
Implementing the value stream readiness level (RL) de-risking program helped the project team uncover “unknown-unknowns” and produced tangible risk reduction opportunities. These opportunities were then incorporated into the execution plan and managed by the project team. This process created an environment of openness and collaboration to unmask problems before they occur and will minimize surprises during project execution while accelerating the readiness levels (RL) of the technology and system and is part of our Industrialization Journey for HISEP®.
